Reporting Cruelty

Humane Investigations

Each year, our staff responds to as many as 100-150 reports of suspected cruel and inhumane treatment of animals in Chittenden & Grand Isle Counties and beyond. Each time we respond to such a call we use the opportunity, when appropriate, to educate and provide information and supplies in order to help promote responsible pet care. When the circumstances dictate, we will involve the proper authorities to remove an animal from a dangerous or unsafe situation.

If you suspect or witness the inhumane treatment of an animal, please call 862-0135, ext. 18. If you believe the situation to be an emergency, please contact your local Animal Control Officer or Police Department.

In addition, reports of suspected cruelty or neglect can now be submitted online via Vermont’s very own case management tool. www.ReportAnimalCruelty.com. Click here to access the system.
